This story started off with Michael falling. He fell and fell and fell. When he finally came to a stop, he found that he had no memory He was with two other people, an undead man and a large, 9-foot tall man. The large man introduced himself as the Master and told Michael to follow him. Michael was then led to an area with thousands of other people in it. There, Michael learned why his memory was wiped, and what his purpose would be. He had to compete in the Game. The Master told everyone that they had to escape the area, or die trying. Everyone had already found a group, so when the Master released them into the tunnel system of the area, Michael was left on his own. He had to traverse the dangerous underground alone. Throughout the book, he grew stronger, but the web of lies around him grew tighter and tighter the further the book went on.
Review
I really enjoyed this story. The book didn’t get bogged down in endless player statistics and combat notifications like so many other LitRPGs. The main character had to learn and grow throughout the book, and he wasn’t always successful. I felt like the world building was good, and the story had good pacing and enough tension to keep me interested.
The book was well-written, but I was a little annoyed by the use of commas in the book. There were missing commas or commas in the wrong spot, and it messed with the flow of the sentences. It made for an awkward read. And there were a few typos I had to sort through.
All in all, I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the book. I am excited to see what the next book brings.
