The Queen’s Blade by T.C. Southwell

5/5 stars

The Queen’s Blade by T.C. Southwell is about a young queen who vowed to do the impossible: end the Eternal War between Jashimari, her country, and her enemy country, Cotti. To do this, she consulted a seer, and was told that there would only be peace if a queen who was neither Jashimari or Cotti sat on the Jashimari throne. To accomplish this task, the queen, Minna, hired an assassin, Blade, to kill the Cotti king and bring his son to her. The prince scoffed at her goal of uniting the countries through blood, and said it would never work. Minna refused to take no for an answer, however, and once again requested Blade’s help. The book is Blade’s and Minna’s struggle to accomplish this task.

This book is honestly one of my favorite books of all time. I have probably read it close to twenty times. Blade as a character fascinates me. He is highly skilled in his profession. He is a cold-blooded killer. But…he’s also hurting below that wall of ice around his heart. He professes to care about nothing and no one, but does his best to protect the few people in his life. His personal journey isn’t shown too much in the first book, but throughout the series, he grows as a character.
