Michael was able to finally escape the dungeon in this book. However, one of the Powers in the game he annoyed placed a bounty on him. Not only that, but the Master would only give him a week before hunting him down as well.
However, after escaping the dungeon, Michael discovered that he was in a closed sector, and death was all but assured of he didn’t find some way to escape. Michael, in his quest to find a way out of the area, accepted multiple tasks from different people. While he was going about fulfilling the tasks, he dodged around and hunted down the people who were hunting him.
Using his skills, Michael set about completing his tasks. Michael had to find out the allegiances of the goblins in the area, and rescue some people. He did so, and then talked to the person who gave him the quests in a bid to get a portal scroll to escape.
After his plans with the goblins and different players were done, Michael met with the dire wolves who he was trying to save. The wolves interrogated Michael after he completed the task that they gave him, and then they told him forbidden information that only the Powers know.
In his quest to find a way out, Michael discovered a shield generator that was preventing him from teleporting out of the area. The generator was in a wyvern’s lair, and so he went there to kill the wyvern and destroy the generator. He finished those tasks, then talked to Loken, one of the Powers. He made a deal with Loken, and was teleported out of the area.
Review
I really enjoyed this book. The plots within plots were fun to try and guess at. I liked how the author created such a deep story, and made it make sense. I have frequently read books that just did not make sense because the author tried to put too much into the book, or didn’t tie it all together. So it was nice to see that everything tied together really well in this book.
I enjoyed the timeline that Michael had. He had to figure out how to escape the area in seven days, or else he would be hunted and killed. This timeline added tension to the book and kept the book moving at a decent pace. It forced Michael into action.
It was fun to read how Michael was able to hunt down the people who were trying to kill him in addition to working out a way to escape the area. His creativity and the terror he inspired in the people he was hunting was fun to read about.
I liked how Michael was so driven to find his own way. I felt like it kept the story moving at a good pace, and it forced him to grow as a character in order to meet the challenges he faced.
My only issue with the book was there were a lot of characters to keep track of. It was hard to keep track of who they all were and how they all fit together. I don’t think the author could have trimmed them out without messing up the story. In the end, all of the loose threads tied together, so that was good.
